If you have never done cattle before could I suggest you begin buying 500# steers and grazing for summer then sell in fall when pastures run short. I did this throughout high school on odds and ends pieces of ground and learned a lot of valuable information! If you are set on cow/calf id buy some good mid aged cows and they will teach you a lot as they know the routine already. You will just have a high per cow breeding expense buying a bull for small # of cows. Best of luck however you go about it!
