After reading about half the replies I will say this, be patient. I would say take the other job and help out on the side, that is what I have had to do, and eventually he will be ready to hand it over and have confidence in you from the time you have put in with two jobs. For all the people saying go rent or buy your own land, at least in my area it is way to competitive to just go out and rent land, just too many bidders willling to risk losing money. On a typical city job if you loose just a couple bucks an acre on a hundred acres an average person will go bankrupt. I am counting down the day, my dad was given control on the farm at 34 I will get it at 40. It sucks and I sometimes think it is not right as his dad retired about 10 years younger than he will and thus he has farmed for many many years, but that is how it goes. Be patient.
