Subject: RE: Irrigation

Are you permitted to pump out of the river? I didn't think Kansas allowed new permits to pump out of the river. My family has 3 pumps on the Republican river and we use Riverscreen to get the water and can maintain 1000gpm per pump in just a few inches of water. As far as the ability to have enough moisture in your soil to hold you through July without rain it would be very doubtful. To put that much water into the soil you would most likely leach out a lot of nutrients the corn would still need to achieve good fill. I am not saying that it couldn't happen, but that could turn out to be a very costly risk. If you are that close to the river and can get a permit to pump I would think you could get a permit for a well and run a battery to get enough water if the ground table is to thin.
