You did a good thing there. Just asking??? Why no ridge vent?? You said he was not happy with the old shingles. It appears to me the shingles werent happy with him either.
See first pics where the shingles are not bad,,,,much better anyway,,, along the outside 2 foot where overhang is? This says your main roof shingles were cut short,way short on life due to the excess heat in that attic space(and not on overhang space)(where no heat from attic) Those old shingles had the life drained right out of them from inadequate attic ventilation
IF the soffit area on bottom of slope is closed you need smart vent intake air on EVERY rafter bay
these shingles will do the same thing,,,eventually. Those type vents are ineffective.mho

The house is ridge vented. Take a closer look. The detached/unheated garage is not ridge vented. The garage sits 100 feet from the house. It is not heated or insulated, even though he has the chimney stack through. I have 1000% confidence there will be no issue with the new shingles. I tried to sell him ridge to match the house but he didnt want it since the place is going for sale. I always try to sell the ridge vent.
