SW Ohio | Wanted to add my cart experience, thanks to previous threads I got some good info.
Towed a brent 1080 (1000 bushel corner auger) with 900 floaters 130 miles home fri night/saturday. Probably averaged 35mph, had to do alot of slowing down for on coming traffic. Took around 4 hrs of drive time.
1. Don't pull something like this after dark! Oncoming traffic dont realize how wide it is and hammer brakes last second. In daylight they get wayyyy out of your way mostly.
2. Stick to truck routes. Wide roads are your best friend. Tried taking a shortcut and it wasn't.
3. I wasnt comfortable running more than 45mph.... as far as bouncing, it only did it at 35-38mph, so 40+ was the sweet spot. I had 30psi in the tires.
4. Before leaving where you buy your cart, check lug nuts, tire pressure, lights, tighten down tarp, ratchet strap the auger to the cart, hook up a safety chain, & grease axles.
5. bring the proper hitch! I made one the night before to work with ag pintle hitches. Another guy said he'd just put a clevis & pin it & cart to standard hitch.... crazy for distance.
6. Big enough truck... my 2500hd 3/4 ton cclb was minimum.... 13k trailer weight/approx 1000 tongue weight (according to brent but idk) didnt make it hard to pull but stopping made me nervous. Truck squatted pretty good, id rather a 1 ton.
My truck has a class v hitch, rated for 12.5k/1800 lbs, and I got a 2.5x2.5x10.5" square solid and welded 2 flats to it, drilled the holes tight to the pins, and used 2 bearing lock collars for spacers inside....I felt No slop.
Id space the flats apart another 1/4" next time, the cart pintle was 2.25" thick. Didn't have trouble, but no ditches were crossed.
