| Don't know for sure (I am not a young guy) but a couple thoughts. Some landlords want a younger guy who is not close to retirement age so they don't in theory need to actively seek to find another guy in the near future ( imo there really are landlords who want a long term solution in their crop share tenant farmer and are not just looking for the guy who pays the most cash rent). Second, some folks just like to go with the underdog. A young guy is the underdog. Again these folks are typically long term crop share people (often their family has owned the land for generations) not the folks who want to hit a home run with whoever will write the biggest cash rent check. | |
