Subject: RE: who is cutting solid stemmed alfalfa?

North shore of Lake Ontario
Found out the importance of sugar 2 years ago. Red clover haylge was ready to chop and in fact we had a couple of loads in the silo when one of those 10 minute rain showers hit. Took till the next morning to dry out enough for a tower silo and when the feed analysis came back the sample was very low in sugar. Had to add a 50 lb bag to every 4000 lbs of the grain mix for the tMR to maintain production and more important maintain the herd health.
