Depending on how large it is, the smaller ones shouldn't have a radio control that has a range of more than a mile.
If he has it's route figured out which you can program into these things, hang a bunch of fishing line in it flight path with nuts and washers tied to the bottoms of them When it hits the ground, don't touch it. but drive over "(it)" and see what it is.
