Subject: RE: Horizontal boring today (pics)

Alentejo, Portugal
When i was a kid they were putting in a gas line on our home farm, back in Holland. Nowadays there are some 10 or 12 gaslines in there. They run from the Natural gas boring platforms in the Northsea just offshore pass our house to go to some refinery station and than back to wherever it is needed. There is a large channel in front of our house, (50-60m wide) which they crossed at just a slight angle (I think less then 30 degrees in relaton to the channel) So they welded 500 meters of steel pipe together on our field, maybe 1-1,5 meters in diameter. I remember riding my bycicle in them...

They started boring from the other side, first small, then bigger and bigger. When the final drillbit was through they hooked the pipe to the bit, and pulled the pipe, on tracks or wheels or so, helped by 10 cat Pipelayers !! took em quite a while but they pulled it through!
