I have a portable one too. Mine cuts out too. Sometimes it doesn't seem to matter if there's a cloud in the sky or not. I don't know which direction I'm going but it seems to do it more later in the day. I thought it was just mine and was thinking about getting a new antenna. I'm glad you mentioned this.
