Subject: RE: 100 lb nitrogen minimum

Central Nebraska
Here in Central Nebraska I have been testing for nitrate N in deep soil tests for over 30 years. We have had some fields some years that have enough carryover N that we only apply 50-75# of N. Other fields are tapped out and we are applying 250-275# of N. We also test the irrigation wells for N content and figure that in as well as the normal soybean credit. It works "here" because of our soils and limited rainfall. Over the years I have learned that every part of the US (and the world for that matter) has to be farmed differently. I only knows what works or doesn't work for me.
