I've only seen guys throw rock down the washout and this concept intrigues me.

That 2 or 3 foot cut in pic 2 goes across the waterway channel? Whats the point of it? Is the purpose of this kind of structure for when you have a waterway that drains off a field into a creek, where the creek may be 10 feet below the top of your waterway and you need to get that water to the creek without it continually eroding the slope back to the waterway?

It looks like the rock is to slow the water and give it a place to run without running directly over soil?
