Subject: Milage?

Geuda Springs, Kansas
A few years ago I did a test with our Ford L9000 390 horse N14 semi pulling a 38ft grain trailer. making 6 mile runs to the elevator, Shifting all the time, idling in the elevator. I averaged 8 to 9 mpgs. A dually pickup hauling an 1/4 of that weight will will get about the same. Is this acceptable? My goal in the next several years is to build a big class 7 service truck. I want all my tools on it and also be able to safely use it to pull a big gooseneck. I want to quit buying heavy pickups and just buy a half ton pickup and use the big trucks for pulling the loads. We are already sketchy with the DOT on the use of a 1 ton pickup anyway. It depresses me as a young person, that a new one ton truck costs as much as I gave for my house 2 years ago.
