convection, conduction, and radiation. The R value test ONLY measures heat loss by CONDUCTION. Conduction is when a molecule stays in place, but passes the heat from one molecule to the next. Kind of like a burner on a stove heating up a pan. Convection is when the molecule with the heat moves. This would be air loss. Or similar to the way a furnace works. Radiation is...... I forget how to describe this, but imagine the sun heating something. BTW.... I laugh out loud when someone says they put tin foil bubble wrap under there concrete for insulation. Not much radiation under concrete.

I may not be using exact terminology, but it sounds like we agree....
