Little River, TX | I only taught country flying, but did teach the students how to get into a busy airport.
I would have them make a straight in approach using approach control. They would carry high power on final riding the Vne all the way. About over the approach lights, throttle to idle, slow to flap extension speed, go to 40 degrees of flaps and put it on the ground. At the first high speed turn off they could make the turn without that uncomfortable feeling get off the active.
They would have one radio on tower and one radio on ground control. As soon as clear of the active switch to ground and tell them, and tell them where you want to park.
When the tower learns to recognize the tail number they have no problem letting you fit into the stream.
This does not work real well with a Piper. | |
