My numbers are about like yours, John . This question is very location dependent. But in my Sw Wisconsin area I think I can go birth to plate, year around, on about 2 acres/ harvested steer, not withstanding a 2012 type drought. But then you have to feed hay. And with not a lot of man hours per steer or purchased inputs, at least after startup expenses. Land costs are around 3500-4000/acre if you can find any. So gross income should be around 1100lb x $1.45/2a= 800/a when in full operation at carrying capacity. Or thereabouts.
Many different ways to raise cattle.

Including the cow? Or is the land base required for the cow above and beyond the steer. Just asking so I understand. Thank you.
