garvo - 6/29/2013 12:02 879# hay $80 Orchard grass -brome $70, weighs692# bale 8 bales -$70,little alfalfa-693# 3x 3 bales !1st cut alfalfa 67$- 700# 1st cut alfalfa(730#) 3x3 bales $60 auction on Live cattle auction small sq grass $3.50- 52# average grass 1st cut alfalfa 700# at $67 = $191/ton 879# @ $80 = $182/ton Looks like $150-$200/ton is where it's going to be... So a typical 1500# 5x6ft mixed alfalfa bale is going to sell for $110-$150/bale. Which doesn't work with good 700# beef breed steers selling for around $1.35-1.45 as they did yesterday. Many sold for $1.25. Maybe this hay is being purchased by dairies or guys mixing with lower cost feeds but it wont be going to cow/calf operators. jmho. Jim
