N.C. Iowa | I guess I would have to say that is going to depend on the shape and history of the tractor. Sounded like he had overhauled it already, so I would assume it is worth saving. If one does the work himself or has a friend help that knows about these tractors, a decent amount of work can be done for $5000. If there are more problems than just some clutch packs it could get worse. Take the tractor to Deere and I'm guessing it will be over 10,000.
Everyone is going to have a different amout that they think is reasonable. If the 4640 was in the shape of our 4440, spending 10-12000 to fix at JD is reasonable. It is high priced, but at least you know the problem is solved instead of buying a tractor of the same era, that in a few months may have the same issues. I guess I am just making assumptions that it is like ours, and yes it will cost money and it could be more than what I said, but no use running from problems if you know the history of the rest of the tractor. | |
