Subject: RE: john deere 3800 telehandler

Alberta, Canada
They weren't really popular..... and they were discontinued last year(all "JD" telehandlers were).

What do you plan to use it for? They are not industrial loaders, and they can't be used as one, but they can take a lot more abuse than say, a 100Hp loader tractor.

Even though I haven't personally run one, I always liked them, figured it was probably the only telehandler I'd ever own. I don't think I'd like them for running around in the field/from field to field, but I think for working in yards, pens, barns, unloading/stacking bales, etc, it would be perfect. There's a big dairy in my area that runs 2 of them, mostly for bale handling (3x4x8s). I watched one of them unload and stack silage bales with #2, man that thing was slick. Dealer brought one out to load the mixer when the neighbor's 7820 went down..... both the neighbor and his hired hand loved it.

My concerns are that it's too light, both for ride/stability, and just not beefy enough. I'd likely mount some suitcase weights on it just to take some of the bounce out of it....
The life-span of a telehandler is rather short, and adding an articulation joint to that doesn't exactly extend it's life span.
Last real concern is poor forward visibility due to that boom?
From what I hear, the fuel injector pumps tend to fail every few hundred hours.

Over all, I'd like to have one, just can't seem to find a gently-used one for a reasonable price.
