If you are side dressing after the corn is up, say 4-5 leave, I'm skeptical if you will get your investment back.

The biggest question is what type of soils do you farm? Low laying, poorly drained , you have a better chance of pay back. If in doubt run side x sides

Good advice, above here. The shorter period you have between application and crop need, the less of a chance you'll get your investment back. Also, the higher the rate of N, the less of a chance you'll be able to pick out help from a stabilizer. Way early with lower rates, that's where the stabilizers really help.

That all said, it's different today than it was 10 years ago with pricey fertilizer and low crop prices. There's probably more risk in underapplying N with commodity prices today, where that wasn't the case with $2 corn and $450-500 (or more) anhydrous.

If you're in the black ground of Frankfort or north and south of West Lafayette (spent a lot of time there) with drainage, I'd be temped to bump rates and forgo the stabilizer for a sidedress application. PRE, yeah, probably a better investment... if fall (don't recommend fall N), it's gotta be N-Serve + anhydrous.

You get a year like 2011-2012 in most of Indiana, eh, sidedress at V4-5 stabilizers probably didn't pay too well. However, in 2009-2010 NW Indiana, you might have recouped perhaps a couple of years' investment on Instinct stabilizer or N-Serve (for NH3).

It's all about risk management and your comfort!
