Subject: Re: Field Burning

Downtown Shell Knob MO Come Visit!
I used to be all for field buring. Then I learned about all the negative effects like lost of nutrients and loss of carbon and loss of water holding ability and the loss for a soil surface to maintain a micro climate under thatch. So I was AGAINST FIELD BURNING!!!!!!!!!!

AND NOW IM ONCE AGAIN ALL FOR BURING, I DON'T CARE WHAT THE BOOKS SAY, BURNING SEEMS TO BE LIKE TILLAGE FOR A NOTILLER, IT JUST MAKES EVERTHING EASYIER AND MAKES THE CROPS YIELD MORE. I can not do tillage because of my soils so I don't know if random tillage would increase yields in my notill system, buy I do know that burning helps break up dieseases and give a crop a quick head start which is sometimes the difference between profit and loss
