SEMO | I have gone to three split applications of my nitrogen for the past 2 years and feel as though it has been a definite improvement. I am limited to mainly usage of a dry form of nitrogen and in our case that is urea. Most of our suppliers within 30 miles don't handle other forms and if they handle uan their equipment is limited. I incorporate 70 units preplant, apply another 92 units with agrotain at the v5 stage and put another 46 units on pretassel with the airplane with agrotain. My corn seems to never stress from n deficiency even with the heavy furrow irrigation we use, especially last year! The split apps help spread out our risk of N loss as well. We are in a strong rice growing area in the past so availability of UAN and anhydrous hasn't been a viable option if you would like to deal with local suppliers. I do think the same rules would apply though. | |
