Central Iowa | I, as many others on this site, remember quite well the years of $2 corn and living off my wife's income and the LDPs from the gubmint. The youngsters these days only know the good times of high and rising prices of commodities, land, inputs and machinery. How many remember when 160 bu corn would only gross $350/Acre?? Now we're talking $1000/acre gross income. Inflation is certainly one consideration; however, we live in a boom/bust and feast/famine world.
It seems the old saying that "farmers live cash poor and die asset rich" is true even today. $6 corn is a good price for many- myself included. Never underestimate the ability of the American farmer to produce - especially given the 'high' price of $6 corn today. | |
