I'm going to take a different tack on this. Is there any chance the shooting range was located there because the ground wouldn't grow anything? So there is something else, which is unrelated, and which predates the shooting range, that causes the white spots? What is the elevation compared the surrounding land? Higher, lower, same? Do you have current soil tests?
