Now if we took a fraction of the land we use for commercial corn, soy, ect. and used for human consumption foods we could support many, many times our population.  Yes, we would have to cut back on our red meat intake, but we could still enjoy life and live.  We do not produce what necessary to support a larger population we produce what the consumer will buy, big difference.
