In heavy rootworm areas the Poncho 1250 is going to get hammered and the 500 rate will look like nothing on CRW. From the rootworm pressure I saw this year you will need at least 2 modes of action against CRW with one of them probably being a granular insecticide. I hate dumping insecticide too but I keep doing it because it makes me money. I typically leave several check strips and the insecticide will make me almost 10 bu/acre on average on any of the traited corn I have tested. $7.50/bu x 10 bu =$75 - $21 insecticide = $54/acre net return. If I dump 24 bags of insecticide in the planter in the morning at 4.4 lb/acre rate I can run about 250 acres x$54/a = $13,500 profit per planter fill. If you don't want to dump insecticide I bet you can hire someone to do it for you 1-2 times/day for a couple hundred bucks. If you happen to find out you have resistance to the trait you are using then you have a backup with insecticide so you don't have down corn.
