Amherst WI | Our lighter soil that doesn't hold N long.
IMO agrotain on urea is no where near the product that ESN is. ESN realeases some each time it rains provided it is warm enough. Urea blows its load all at once, if it is treated it still blows its load all at once just a few weeks later.
I haven't used ESN for two years becuase I felt it was over priced. I know I screwed myself on yield this year because I didn't get the sidedress N on fast enough on a few farms, then it was dry and it didn't get activated right away after it was on. The $5 an acre I "saved" on replacing 44 units of N with 32% cost me at least 5-10 bushel at least.
I will definatley be going back to my old program of 100# ESN pre plant/pre emerge and then side dress the remainder. I also use starter too but that is only 12 untis of N. | |
