Had a buddy, try something like that, at his "barn" that he built a little apartment inside. (This was to be temporary, while he built his house(as cash allowed) 150 gallon tank, with slits in it and gravel around(note: this was a little dusk to dark project, so no one could see).


Well, all was ok, got house foundation in, but met a gal and got married= now, two people, in little apartment = too much for little, homemade septic.
Now, big hurry to dig up, pump out the barrel (dusk to dark again) got the "new house approved septic tank and drain field" installed and once more "dusk to dark" project to attach his home-made septic to the new house system.


Since then, house is built, and little apartment is just a true bathroom/office area.



Note: Had to be classified, as a "barn", to allow water to be inside; couldn't be a garage or machine shed. (They could only have electrical, but no water).
