On a vfd you set the startup characteristics so you can make it a soft start. Doing that dramatically cuts your starting currents. Are the motors required to be that many hp ie are they under much load? A lightly loaded motor on a softstart can be started with the same rating generator if you set the softstart to long enough and you aren't starting a really high static load (ie a high static load is something the motor has to basically rotationally jerk to get moving initially. A fully loaded auger would be an example)

Do you ever need to start both at once? You can set the logic so they can't start at teh same time.
