I have a 2000 model 6 litre with about the same total mileage as the OP that uses twice that much oil, but I don't worry about it. Think back 40 years at what normal oil consumption was on a 2,400 mile engine. Since mine idles a lot around the farm, I feel most of the oil is probably seeping through the valve guides.
