Good answers.  I learned as a parent to give the child a choise so that they feel they are in control.  "Would you like to eat 1 big spoon full of peas or 2 big spoon full of peas."  Naturally most would take the 1.  Fine with me.  Just so they eat some peas.  they still think they are in control.  Fine. 

Second. You may have to raise the punishment to get the child to obey.  How high the punishment or what punishment is different for each child.  Our first child was a boy and he was a piece of cake to raise.  Very willing to comply and easy to get along with.  Second child was just the opposite.  Very strong willed.  Completely different person.  Second child was always pushing the limits.  I think the child did it to see if we cared enough to take the time with her to correct her and teach her what is acceptable.
