Faunsdale, AL | The 3rd one is an AC tap and can be used to drive a tachometer etc. No, you don't need to connect to it for normal operation. The #1 terminal will connect to your GEN light to excite the alternator even though it probably will self excite without it if you rev the engine. I like to have the light working if I can, it's just more dependable.
When you turn on the ignition switch, the GEN light should come on as a bulb check and to excite the alternator. As soon as the alternator excites, the regulator should close the field relay and it applies enough voltage to the #1 terminal to keep the light off (no ground). | |
