there is most likely a short inside the steering controller box, caused by the metal shield on the cover shorting to the gyro that is mounted on the back wall. Since the box is out of warranty, here is a DIY suggestion, (not for the faint of heart mechanic armed with a hammer) you can open it up very carefully by removing the screw on the approximately middle of the bottom of the case (covered by a warranty do not remove label.) When you look at the inside of the opened cover you will probably notice that one of the longer tabs is bent out of position. Carefully bend the tabs so the cover will go on with the tabs going into their proper location and not touching the gyro. You will notice that the gyro on the back wall is mounted on an insulator. the bent tabs are grounded and cannot be allowed to touch the gyro.
