In My opinion SF2 or Omnistar are not nearly accurate enough for laying tile. RTK is the only way to go. I beleive SF2 is advertised as 4 inch horizontal accuracy. Generaly vertical accuracy is double. I know I would not be happy with 8 inch accuracy. Any GPS grade control system can only lay as accurate as the signal going into it. If you want to check it out, export GGA NMEA string into a program such as VisualGPS and do a 2 hour static test. It will show you how much your elevation is moving. I think after doing that, you will not be interested in using anything less than RTK.
