Raising a barn up sounds like an expensive situation you maybe getting yourself into. I would advise weighing every option right down to the last detail. The value of your existing machine shed storage could be taken right off the top of your new shop price to have a more accurate net cost for the new shop, as you will still use your existing 72x45 shed which you otherwise would no longer have available to you.

My best guess is building a new shop would cost you twice as much as converting the old structure, at least. You should probably decide what you are willing to spend for a shop like you want and go from there. I have pondered over converting an existing 42x62x16 into a shop building, but will likely start from scratch when the time comes. I hate to sacrifice a perfectly good storage building.
