Eastern Iowa | It's not that they can't make something new, it's that they can't make something new that garners anybody's attention.
People have a lot of entertainment options anymore, and movies are particularly expensive to produce and promote. If a film doesn't bring a built in fan base from a comic book, TV show, or previous incarnation, those movie producers are stuck building it up from scratch. And doing that means there's a chance they will spend a bunch of money and only make a little (or none at all) which seems like a risk too big for Hollywood suits.
TV had gotten just as bad once Survivor and the reality genre began. Reality TV has sort of worn out its welcome, though, thank God. Lots of new, creative, programming on TV. Maybe the movie companies will change their tune eventually. | |
