Central Illinois | I have two fields that have been bad all year, wet, wetter, and wettest. I have them pegged at 100. Another field has DK65-53, which could not take the heat, and I pegged it at 125. The rest of my corn I actually thought was 160 to 185. My corn guarantee is about 149, so I will definetely be collecting some insurance.
I think we lost a lot of nitrogen this spring and summer. Most N was spring applied, and one field was side dressed. Four hundred acres showing the worst N shortage, we had 100 pounds of urea flown on. One of those fields have been harvested and although it looked like crap, went 155. Our best field so far was 105 acres of corn on bean ground, and it went 164. Earlier, I had estimated it at 185. Although test weights are better (54-57 lb) than last year, the kernels are very small, almost shriveled.
Population is there, even in wet holes, but where the corn looks like it was healthy and good, he monitor only shows 25 to 40 bushel better than the stunted plants.
I also took 56 acres of prevented planting of corn this year in Menard County, a first for me. | |
