Lake Park Iowa
Al is still ridge tilling, Many have quit, but Al is still doing a good job of it. I did for a few years, until I started needing to inject hog manure. I would say there are around a half of dozen of good farmers that still ridge till in a 10 mile radius of us. Roundup has really made their work easier. No more cultivating beans any more for them. Built their ridges in corn, band fertilizer after harvest, and plant. One of my brothers and his son have done it for I would say around 30 years. There used to be a number of farmers that belonged to a ridge till club, but ideas and farming changes as time passes. We have done a number of different methods over the years, for the last 16 years hog manure has narrowed our methods down. BT corn has now made a new challenge, with all the stalks that need to be worked with on a wet spring. Dan
