A little corn came out last week but maybe a thousand acres in our county. Haven't heard any reliable yield numbers over 100 bpa yet, one guy thought he had some pretty good corn and said it averaged 80 bpa and I know a neighbor wasn't getting a full hopper on 3/4 mile long rows with a 12 row head on gently rolling pattern tiled ground. I think most of the early corn around here will be pretty poor, it matured during the hot weather and matured way too fast. Most of the April planted corn has been 100% brown for a week or two now and by comparison our Memorial day planted corn hasn't even started to turn yet. Most years I would figure corn planted the first of June would yield 30-40 bpa less than corn planted the middle of April but as long as we can hold the frost off looks like the June planted corn has a chance at yielding close to twice as much as the corn planted "on time". I know one field of corn up the road was 104 day corn planted about April 2 or 3 and it was 20% moisture but I've heard some numbers as low as 15% already. |
