the only downfall i can see by killing the milo when the head is mature is the late emerging tillers will more than likely not be fully mature ie. hard dough stage and the yield for those heads would be down compared to letting them fully mature......I am with you on saving the moisture by killing it early but the best milo we have ever harvested came off of a green stem.
