Subject: Thanks to all for crop insurance advise

NC Ohio
I have came to realization that I knew nothing about crop insurance and how it works. And realize it is my own fault and was putting way to much faith in it. Did not know you need to buy a seperate hail policy even if you have a multi peril policy if you want to collect. I just wish there was a way they could base your loss on what the potential was there before a loss and then after it. I know that your APH is how it is determined but it seems you are getting penalized for scraping up as much corn as you can. Most of our APH is around 150 so at 85 percent coverage that comes in around 120 and we were looking at a really good yield here this year. If we can gather up 60 percent of the crop we will still end up paying the premium and get no help. And every day I drive past the mess out there it just makes me sick to think if the weather holds we will not even have a claim. So what good is it to have insurance. If I would take the $60,000.00 every year I pay them and stick it in a CD or something and in a few years I could self insure myself. Going to start running it next week if I can get things around so maybe after that I will have a different outlook on the situation. Just got done today putting Calmor rolls and the whole system on our 12 row hoping that will help. Corn is testing 28 so going to take a lot of gas to. Maybe somehow they can blame the storm on BP and cut me a big old check. Thanks again for all the information and hope you all have a safe harvest
