Central Iowa | I put my dry fert. right down the middle of the ridge in the fall with Auscherman coulters. The coulters loosen and knock down the stalks somewhat. I would prefer to angle the coulters and run them on the side of the ridges, but my current toolbar doesn't have enough room on the bar to do this.
I plant in the spring right down the old row with a 955 planter equipped with the old fashioned ridge-cleaners. I end up with a very nice consistant seedbed. Sometimes I will run a rotary hoe ahead of planting to help dry the ridges and tear up the stalks a little more. It never made sense to me to plant between the rows. | |
