Nebraska Panhandle
I'm from Lodgepole in the southern Nebraska panhandle. We are dry as a bone also. No rain since first week in August. Upper 90's for too long and all this wind has taken all the moisture out on top. No-till is baked hard. About 3 inches of hard dirt like cement. Good moisture under that. Disk drill only cuts in about 3/4 inch in heavy residue spots -- 1/2 in. in light residue spots. Never seem my no-till so hard. Trying to decide if I should go out and drill the seed and hopefully cover it a little-- and hope for a good rain to bring it up. Or option 2 is to wait till it rains. Been waiting for 40 some days also and no rain in the forecast doesn't look good. Summerfallow fields are loose and dry anywhere from 4 to 6 inches on top. Not good seeding conditions at all here.
