Subject: HRW Wheat planting conditions

NE CO
I'm curious how the rest of the Hard Red Winter Wheat area is set up for seeding this fall's crop. I'm located in NE CO and we haven't had significant rain for 40 days now, and have numerous over 90 deg days with strong winds. Most no till fields are baked dry and hard. I planted one field yesterday that has a tendency to blow in hopes of getting cover this fall. I was using a flexicoil hoe airseeder which went in the ground ok, but ripped up in large clods and I was burying the seed about 3" deep in marginal moisture. No way the 1890 disc seeder was going to get to moisture. Neighbors I visited with at the airshow in Akron today were experiencing some of the same frustrations. Many haven't started drilling yet and are waiting for a rain, though none in the forecast. I think I will park and wait too. How is everyone else doing?
