Scottville, 49454 Northwest Michigan | Here is a tile design calculator from Baughman Tile Co. It might be of help to you. http://www.baughmantile.com/drainagecalc.htm
Of major importance in deciding what size main to use, is the grade of that main. Obviously, the number of acres drained going into the main is important too. But you can get by with a smaller main with just a little more grade. You said 2% slope. That would 20 feet of slope for every 1000 feet of tile length. That would be quite a bit of slope in my area. Frankly, I don't know if there's that much slope anywhere in my county. On a lot of our farm we feel fortunate to get .1% slope. That would be one foot of slope in a 1000 feet.
Anyways, take a look at the calculator. It might be of help. Also, some of the tile companies have handy slide rules for tile size determinations. I have one from Prinsco. It's very useful. I think I merely requested one off of their website.
Personally, based on the information you provided, and assuming you meant .2% slope, I would use an eight inch main. But if the main really is at a two percent slope, six inch main would work fine.
good luck, gordon
