Little tougher these days with a tile plow.

When it was just the trencher that was available, back up about 50 - 100 feet from where you "think" it might be.... drop the trencher in and go at an angle to the old line.

Most of the old ones are clay or concrete tile, here anyway. The broken chunks showing up dirt pile says you just crossed the line you want to hook into.

Otherwise, in the spring, right at thaw time, the line itself will be powder dry while the surround ground sticks to the shoes/boots like glue. Flag the line and hope like heck whoever is running the FC or what ever doesn't fall asleep and take em out.
