Ranger, I agree, but needed to do something. I tried broadcasting Annual ryegrass on about 5 years ago with my dry fertilizer application. I actually got a decent stand (after harvest). However, I got 3 different re-growths the following year, and had to go in with a rescue treatment which dinged my corn (corn was not RR). Still had grass showing at harvest. I run a one man show, and do not have a narrow row planter or drill (beans are 30"). Plus I am so focused on getting the crops out, I would be hard pressed to find time to get the covers planted in a optimal way. I would have to stop harvest to plant covers, & I cannot abide that, even with my faith in the benefits of covers. I feel I would be robbing Peter to pay Paul. I also have a lot of earthworms due to No-till and suspect I will have some bare spots from their feeding on the seed. But, I plan to at least TRY this and see how things work out. The pics are going into my folder and will post more as things germinate............or not!(kids included) |
