Subject: Tile question

Central Iowa
Question for the tile experts. We have some ground in SW WI that would be classified as ‘rolling’ so tiling isn’t in our skill set. Problem is the last two years of above average rainfall has left about 20 acres up the center unusable to farm because of standing water, it just won’t dry up. It seems the standing water area keeps getting bigger and bigger. We have never had this problem before, all of the ground eventually drained well enough to drive through the very bottoms without any thought of getting stuck. It almost seems like the water table is higher than the ground down there, can that happen?

The ground is two 80s end to end that all drain out one point on the south end of the south 80. There is about another surrounding 60 acres that also drain through this ground out the same point. Its shaped like a big U where the sides drain to the center and the center drains to the south end. The high to low elevation change is about 40 feet running into the center. Problem is the center ¾ mile from the south drain to the north of the problem area maybe drops 10ft over its entire run. I need to GPS it to figure this out, I might be way off, but standing in it, it looks flat.

Knowing nothing about tile what would be the best setup to solve this situation? Put in two or three parallel runs of pipe the entire length? Use one main pipe with branches? What size pipe would be adequate? How deep is tile normally placed? Soil is generally clay with no rocks if that matters. Or would it be better to use a scraper and cut a two foot deep waterway up the entire length? It seems like if we could get this water moving it would drain.

Need some ideas. Thanks.
