Subject: So what’s wrong here? Kinze 3000, SureSpeed, meter bolts

North Central IN
Kinze 3600, finger pickup, meter bolts keep falling out…

I’ve probably owned the planter for 15 years. It came with AgLeader Sure Stop clutches and finger meters. Had an issue from day one with the stupid thumb screws falling out while planting. A few years ago, I switched to bolts and lock washers. Still fell out. Switched to Sure Drive and eliminated the chains, still fell out. Plastic meter covers will occasionally break. Have had precision meters since new and get them run every year on a test stand.

Halfway thru the season this year, I gave up and bought brand new boxes. Many of the threaded inserts were messed up and had pulled out. Planted a little over a 100 acres and I’ve got 6 bolts missing and the rest of them were loose. I’m getting tired of it, as it leaks and spills seed when the bolts come loose. Tried new bolts. Flange bolts. Flat washers. Nothing seems to hold, and it’s random, can happen on any given meter at any time.

What have people done? Use All-thread and Locktite then install locking nuts? Drill thru the boxes and put locknuts on inside? I’m really at a loss for ideas, and I’m tired of $3-400 seed corn dribbling out the back of the planter…
