Iowa
Yep - that’s exactly what I did. My 5 ton unit used 5-100 ft loops - I went between 9-10 ft deep which put me in the water table. Made a pvc manifold to bring all the loops together, no pressure flow center that feeds the geo. After that it’s 220 wiring and ductwork. I worked with geothermal products out of Des Moines and he got me what I needed. Was quoted 25k from a hvac guy, all in I was about 10k - still got the tax credit, and electric co rebate - I think after tax credit/rebate it was around 6000. Spent a week on the backhoe (it’d take me a day to dig the trench make and lay the coil) - so 5 days of digging and a couple days inside hooking it up. First winter my loop temps got down into the 20’s, now they stay in the 40’s. The deeper you go the better your loop temps, and the more efficient your unit runs. There’s calculators online that use your location and soil type to figure heat transfer to help you figure a depth.
